This past Saturday I had the privilege of assisting skilled Bonsai Artist and senior member of the Museum, Michael James, in leading our Bonsai Basics Workshop. We had an awesome group of students who were engaged, inquisitive, and full of excitement. The day began with a lecture covering the basic principles and philosophies of Bonsai. Each student was then randomly assigned a juniper tree, unique tools specific to Bonsai were provided, and the work began! While some students preferred to jump right in, others chose to tour the collection and examine different trees for inspiration. After initial styling was complete, we potted our trees, gave them a thorough watering, and in the blink of an eye, our time together was over. All in all, it was a great day. A very special thank you to everyone who attended, it was a joy to work with you. Look after those junipers!
