Nepalese Firethorn

Several times this growing season I have pruned the new growth on this Nepalese Firethorn (Pyracantha crenulata) tightly back to its silhouette. Although, it was decided this week that the movement throughout this forest planting could be enhanced. The apex of each tree will be pruned back tight, because we don’t need them getting any taller, but each arrow in the photo indicates an opportunity where new growth is in an advantageous location. By pruning back ever so slightly and positioning these new branches with wire, we can hopefully accentuate the movement a bit more, resulting in a more dynamic, interesting composition.
